Pies Guide

Australians eat pies for beakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. The Aussie meat pie can be either friend or foe. This usually depends on where it was purchased from. Covenience store meat pies are to be avoided at all cost, though sometimes they are consumed as a last resort at 4am on the way back from the gig. Even in such dire circumstances it is still essential that the would be pie eater perform a "texture check" upon said pie. Sometimes it is a better idea to go for the sausage roll sitting next to it. Don't forget the tomato sauce.

You will not have any hassles with the pies at the following establishments...

Pub Grub

There are heaps of pubs all over Australia where you can get a decent feed. This section focusses on the ones that come in around the $5 mark. The most famed of all $5 pub meals is of course the $5 steak (although it has recently become the "$10 steak with a free drink"). Whenever ordering a steak we allways state how we would like it cooked. It doesn't allways turn up on your plate looking the way you were hoping it would, doesn't matter, wash it down with a beer. Sometimes though, a safer bet is to go the $5 lasagne. A lasagne is pretty hard to stuff up. Nachos will also do the trick...The crew at Hungry Dingo's speak from years of experience and we reckon that the following establishments probably wouldn't lead you astray.

Where to get Roo?

Australia is possibly the only country in the world which eats its own national emblem, and if you don't try some while you're over here we'll all be very disapointed in you! Emu is up there with ostrich as some of the world's healthiest meat and kangaroos are not only cute and lean but also delicious and organic! Please do not try to catch your own as this is illegal. Most souvenir stores will stock roo jerky, this is one option and makes a good souvenir to take home, I recommend soy flavour. Of course you can obtain some of the fresh sort from your local butcher or supermarket.

Rick the Gardener recommends you do a Brazilian bbq style number on the beast, thinish strips coated with rock salt whacked on the grill, goes down well with a Coopers. If you live in the northern beaches and need your lawn mowed please contact him at AAA Affordable 0422'916'776.
